Where We’ve Been these past couple of months

For a little bit over winter, we closed Preston down. Just a few special guests came through from Airbnb; the rest of the time it was ours to work on.

We do most of the work ourselves there; trades are hard to come by down that way, so closing it down properly just made sense. It was easier to get things done without guests coming in and out.

And I’ve loved it, truly. New linens from Adairs for the Main Bedroom, a new bed downstairs, and a few changes I think will make a real difference to how the house feels to stay in. I always want to be thinking about the person arriving, not just what looks good in a photo.

Some friends and I, who are small business owners ourselves, have been down a fair bit too, in between the work or sitting amongst it. And what we kept noticing is how much we got done just by being there. Not working harder, just working somewhere without the noise and distractions from home. There’s something in that.

Maybe it sounds a bit woo-woo, but I think the house needs a rest sometimes too, same as people. Being back down there and letting it breathe has shown me exactly where the vision’s heading next.

And then there’s the job no guest will ever see, but that’s made the biggest difference of all. The shed! It’s had the clean up of its life. Genuinely, it’s tidy enough now it could have its own little Pinterest page - ha.

More to come.
